Introduction to Wedding Rings

The tradition of the wedding band has survived through the ages and is a traditional symbol of love in many cultures and religions. At Horners Jewellers we have rings with many different designs, widths, weights, shapes and sizes, each one stunning enough for you to adore for a life time.

The most traditional wedding ring is the simple 9ct gold wedding bands, with no pattern or design. More recently however, scrolled design rings, or wedding bands that are set with precious gemstones or diamonds have become a more popular and fashionable choice.

Horners Jewellers have over 85 years’ experience of selling wedding jewellery and we make it our goal to help you find the best ring possible for your loved one.

Wedding Ring Metals

One of the most important choices you’ll have to make about your wedding ring is the material. The traditional materials used to make a wedding ring are either white or yellow gold. However these days, platinum and palladium are becoming the popular choice for wedding rings.

Bearing in mind the wedding and engagement ring will be worn together, we would recommend that you choose the same metal for both. Some metals are harder than others so doing this will minimise wear and tear.

Wedding Ring Shapes

There are two main wedding ring shapes; designs that we stock are Court shaped and D shaped:

Court Shaped is the most common of the wedding ring styles. It is slightly rounded on the outside as well as the inside which creates a comfortable fit.

D shaped wedding rings are rounded on the outside but flat on the inside making a D shape hence why we call it the D shaped wedding ring.

Wedding Ring Weights and Width

A wedding ring is simply a band of gold, but even this simple band comes in a variety of weights. Men wear heavier rings while women wear lighter rings. These rings will have names such as Heavy Weight and Light Weight.

Heavier rings are usually more sustainable and last longer; many couples choose platinum for this reason as well as its strength and beauty.

When purchasing a ring from Horners Jewellers you must be aware of the width of the band. Here we have a range of different widths raging from 3mm – 8mm.

Diamond Set Wedding Bands

The classic plain gold wedding bands are starting to become more stylish by introducing diamonds set in the wedding band. Horners Jewellers have a wide range diamond set wedding bands if you are looking for a bit more shine.
